Wissenschaft im Dialog encourages a dialogue between the public and scientists. We’re organising exhibitions, science festivals, symposia to strengthen science as a topic in public discussion.
Our website provides information on science and science communication. It addresses everyone – children, adults, scientists, communicators and journalists. The website offers an overview of the programmes of Science Centres and provides entertaining news about reports of research or the opportunity to ask scientists directly.
Other important projects are listed below:
Since 2002, for several weeks a year the exhibition ship MS Wissenschaft (MS Science) is going on tour with an interactive exhibition as a floating science centre. The exhibition theme is based on the subject of the Science Year. About 30 cities are visited each year, with the target group being primarily school classes.
Wissenschaftssommer (Science Summer) is the major science fair in German research. Every year, Wissenschaft im Dialog presents science for everyone in a different city: exhibitions, workshops, open laboratories, public discussions, a film festival and much more, all with the aim of stimulating interest in research and science.
With the project Wissenschaft debattieren! (Debate Science!) Wissenschaft im Dialog, in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart, searches for ways to intensify a dialogue between public and science. We are especially interested in events that focus the involvement of the public. Scientists contribute their expertise, the public its expectations, subjective opinion, values or local know-how. The programs aim is to encourage a mutual learning.
Since 2008, Wissenschaft im Dialog organises a science tour through train stations as a hands-on exhibition. In cooperation with Deutsche Bahn (Germany's National Railway), the project is aimed not only at passengers, but in particular at schoolchildren. The exhibition theme is based on the subject of the Science Year.
Wissenschaft im Dialog organises an annual expert conference and symposia on the subject of science communication for the interested public. In this role Wissenschaft im Dialog functions as active platform for the transfer of information between those organisations involved in science communication and their target groups.
In cooperation with the Stifterverband, Wissenschaft im Dialog organises an annual competition for science communication. Wissenschaft interaktiv (Science Interactive) awards 10,000 Euros to young scientists and professional communicators working together to create a concept which presents science across the disciplines so ingeniously and innovatively as to appeal to and be understood by a wider audience.
Wissenschaft im Dialog organises a Wissenschaftsjahr (Science Year) in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). Every Wissenschaftsjahr is focused on a different field of science and research. Throughout Germany there are events related to this topic.
