Science in Dialogue – The initiative of German Science

Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD, Science in Dialogue) is actively engaged in the discussion and exchange on scientific research in Germany. We organize dialogue sessions on controversial topics of research, exhibitions or competitions and develop new formats of science communication.

We launch discussions

Wissenschaft im Dialog initiates discussions about scientific topics. With Fishbowl discussions, in school parliaments, on board of our exhibition ship, in dialogue with citizens and in many new formats of science communication we launch a controversial and broadly based debate on scientific topics of social interest. We aim at engaging citizens in the latest scientific news. 

We inform

Wissenschaft im Dialog provides information on scientific insights and the latest research projects for people of all ages and educational backgrounds. Scientists arouse enthusiasm for research with great collective events on board of the exhibition ship MS Wissenschaft, at entertaining Science Slams or at science festivals throughout Germany – while constantly being in direct dialogue with citizens.

We motivate and qualify

Wissenschaft im Dialog supports and promotes scientists’ willingness to explain their research work to interested non-professionals. We provide young scientists with further education in summer schools and in workshops about science communication. With competitions such as the Junior Science Slam or the University Competition WiD motivates young people to experiment in science communication.

We are an experimental laboratory and a think tank

Wissenschaft im Dialog initiates, supervises and evaluates new formats of science communication. We share successful notions and encourage to imitate ideas. 

We form networks

Wissenschaft im Dialog serves as a network and platform for the exchange of experiences for professional communicators. As a think tank of science communication in Germany, we organize Forum Wissenschaftskommunikation which is the most important get-together in the field in Germany.
