Prof Dr. Peter Strohschneider
Peter Strohschneider has been president of the German Research Foundation (DFG) since January 2013. He studied German philology, history, law, sociology and political sciences at the University of Munich. In 1984, he received his PhD in medieval German literature and in 1991, he qualified as professor within medieval and early modern German language and literature. From 1992 to 2002, he was Visiting Professor of German Medieval and Early Modern Studies at the University of Dresden. Strohschneider returned to Munich as Professor for German Medieval Studies in 2002. He wasguest professor at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, at the University of Fribourg and the University of Frankfurt.
From 2006 to 2011, Peter Strohschneider was chairman of the German Council of Sciences and Humanities. He is member of numerous international committees and academies, e.g. the expert commission for the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Academia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea.
