Future of Science Communication Conference

How can we connect research and practice in the field of science communication? How can science communication help make science more trustworthy? And what lessons have we learned on the relationship between science and politics during the Covid-19 pandemic? Over 1.000 participants from all over the globe joined two days of high-level panel discussions, workshops, talks and poster sessions to tackle these and more questions together.

After a year of planning and curating, the event took place as a multidisciplinary, digital conference on 24-25 June, co-organised by Wissenschaft im Dialog and ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the scope of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the international conference brought together various actors from science, science communication and politics. Its aim was to provide an impetus for stronger networking and transfer between the ‘science of science communication’ and practitioner communities.

The conference was thoroughly documented and recorded. For a first impression ALLEA provides a summary with first take-home messages in their report “Future of Science Communication Conference: Moving Forward Research & Practice”. Moreover, the German science communication portal wissenschaftskommunikation.de attended the conference and shared their impressions. Follow the links to read the articles on Day 1 “#FSCC21 – searching for ways to make science communication more effective and impactful” and on Day 2 “#FSCC21 – how science communication can help to maintain the trust in science.”

Until the end of 2021, you can find out more about current science communication projects and research findings in the #FSCC21 Virtual Poster Exhibition.

More documentation such as video recordings of select sessions will be published in the coming months.
