The Summer School programme consists of both inspiring content and practical exercises and is expected to include the following elements:

Welcome, presentation of the Summer School agenda and objectives, getting to know each other
Introduction to the basics of science communication
- What exactly is science communication?
- Overview of structures and cultures of science communication in Europe
- Public attitudes towards science in Europe
- Insights into formats of science communication
Introduction to science journalism and science PR/university communication
Practical exercise: intercultural communication
Evening programme: e.g. public science slam
Second day (Tuesday)
Inspiration presentation: social media in science communication
Overview of digital formats in science communication
Overview of dialogue and participation in science communication
Practical exercise: development of personal communication strategies
Evening programme: e.g. group boat trip through Berlin
Third day (Wednesday)
Practical exercises: social media in science communication or video production for science communication
Inspiration presentation: e.g. on the subject of trust and responsibility
Development of common guidelines for science communication
Evening programme: public fishbowl/panel discussion e.g. on the topic "The role of scientists in communication: How do you empower them to take action?"
Fourth day (Thursday)
Inspiration presentation: e.g. on the subject of ethics in science communication
Proceeding work on the development of common guidelines followed by a discussion of the interim results
Evening programme: e.g. guided tour of the city (optional)
Fifth day (Friday)
Preparation, final compilation and presentation of the guidelines followed by a discussion (with experts and decision makers, TBC)
Closing and departure in the afternoon
